Slightly Frankensteining my base

edited November 2020 in DIY Projects

Here's a DYI project I did. I wanted to bring in some extra (cool) air and and some extra airflow to the airflow that was introduced with the Cooling Monitoring Solution from Yawvr. It's not that I don't trust their solution, It just felt I needed to comfort myself that it has this extra bit.

!!! WARNING !!! !!! WARNING !!!

The shell/cover is very prone to breaking when you apply pressure with a drill, etc. Do this kind of activities at your own risk. By no means whatsoever do I or YawVR recommend such a change.

This is the base untouched

Created 5cm holes and 2 small incisions near the power console for wiring

Fitted the fans and power button

Some wire management ;)

This is how she looks from the outside

Finished and working.

Had to loosen one screw a tiny bit as one fan was slightly touching the dustcover.

  • You've done a fab job there. Lot's of airflow and exhaust hot air. Looking good, well done 😘

  • Cool installation, where did you plug the USB cable to power the fans? Directly at the USB port on the Raspberry Pi in the Yaw?

  • Yes directly into the Raspberry Pi.
